Note: The gifting feature is not available on all packages. If you are interested in enabling this feature on your SHIFT72 platform please contact your account manager. This feature is only available in the new checkout.
Gifting enables a user to rent or buy an item, but instead of having it added to their library, they generate a token that can be redeemed later. This token can be later redeemed by themselves or another user.
The film must be available to be claimed, and can only be claimed in the regions it is allowed to be watched in.
What can be gifted?
Films and TV Seasons can be gifted for both VOD and EST.
Passes can also be gifted.
Bundles or Subscriptions cannot (yet) be gifted.
Films with sales limits cannot be gifted.
Promo codes cannot be used with gifts
Only one gift can be purchased at a time
Redeem is also not yet supported, but gifting could provide an alternative.
Gifts do not currently expire when purchased on the front end. An expiry date can be added to a gift in admin.
Unsupported purchase options will be hidden in the checkout when the 'Purchase as a gift' toggle is selected.
If a user has already rented the film and wish to gift it, they can do so by clicking the present icon on the film detail page.
Gifts are not tied to the email address they were sent to, so can be transferred.
Errors
Common error screens when redeeming a gift:
Gift has already been claimed by someone (Error code: gift_already_claimed). See Admin on how to investigate this.
Gift is an item the user is already renting (Error code: gift_item_already_owned). The user is already renting the gifted item. They can either wait until the end of their rental to claim, or re-gift to someone else.
Gifter is claiming their own gift (no error code). If the purchaser of the gift also tries to claim it, they will need to tick a box to ensure they are no claiming it in error

Investigating a gift
Gifts are administered under the user screens. There is no shortcut in the list view, so click into the appropriate user and select ‘Gifts’ from the top menu.
Gifts are separated into gifts the user has gifted, and gifts received. These can be navigated using the two tabs at the top of the list.
For Gifts sent he status of the gift is shown on the left hand column. The envelope icon shows a gift that has been sent. A tick icon shows a gift that has been redeemed. If the gift has been redeemed you will see the user that redeemed it in the next column.
Clicking on their name will open the user screen for that user in a new tab. You will find the same gift under 'Received' in that users account.
Gifts appear in the Orders report as both when purchased, as a rental against the Gifter, and when claimed, as a rental against the recipient. The purchase shows with the value of the rental, the redemption will show as a zero price.
Transactions are not yet marked as gifts in reporting. There is also currently no way to link a gift to a redemption in reporting.
Editing a gift
Admin options are available on the 'Gifted' tab by clicking on the cog icon on the far right.
The functions are
Edit enables editing of the gifted item. You can change the gift to a new item, switch ownership type, update countries it can be redeemed in (within pricing and playback restrictions), and add an expiry date.
Copy gift link will copy the gift url to the clipboard to paste wherever it is needed.
Send via email allows an admin to send the email to a new, or same, email address. Options to update the message and From fields are also available. The email field must be filled in to send. There is also an option to revoke any previous links. Use this if the original gift was sent to the wrong recipient.
Revoke Gift will revoke the gift link
Create a gift
There is also the option for an admin to create a gift from the currently viewed user by pressing the ‘Create Gift’ button on the right.
This opens the Create Gift modal:
The minimum requirement is to select an item and add an email address. A message and ‘From’ field can also be added.
Once saved the email is sent.
This method of creating a gift is designed for service recovery and will not appear in reporting.
